Truth

cast away the
ugliness
that surrounds you
when you doubt
mountains of error
must always be found
when in pursuit
of truth

faith hopes in things
not seen
but true
what path will reason
lead us to
when no more
we hope?

Morning Light

Morning light
Tear of sunshine
Opening my soul

Refrain of memory
Sung so sweetly
In union with my heart

Remorse of conscience
Washed in innocence
Purifies my life

Hope sustaining
Destiny remembering
Becoming all I can

Codey Ray

You came into a world
Of darkness
Looking for it’s light
If you could only see
My child
Instead you brought it
With you, shining
In your eyes

You came into a world
Of coldness
Asking to be loved
But in return it turned on you
Abandoned you
To cry alone

So many times
Have I tried to keep you safe,
To take away your pain
But now they’ve torn you
From my life
How can I protect
My little child
Looking in from the outside
With no way to reach you

I beat upon the door and
Cry and beg
To bring you home…
The only place
Where you feel safe
Is here in loving arms

Here you can laugh
And dance and play
You love to smile, take walks outside
And pray
Here you’re nurtured,
Held and always listened to
All my life would I give
If I could only raise you

My little Codey Ray
My angel full of love
How my whole heart cries
And breaks
Yet powerless am I to change
Your beginning life

A million times I ask God why
Why he didn’t make you
Mine
I am the one who loves you

Never say you cannot dream
The world is yours to grasp
So go
And dream away

Never think it’s too hard
It is that thought
That holds you back
So go and doubt
No more

Never fear to give your heart
In giving it away
The world comes back to you
More beautiful than before
So go and give
Your heart away

Never think you’re not enough
You are worth more than gold
All the treasures of the earth
Are dim next to your soul

Journey

She lifted up her hand
And touched a sky painted
Black
The emptiness and heaviness
Consumed her
So she closed her eyes
And sank
Into the earth

~

Right here is where
I need to be, she cried
And her tears became the sea
She laughed and the sound
Became the breeze
She danced and the earth
Trembled with each step
Then, soft and cool as the gentle rain
She wept

~

Opening her eyes once more
She ventured out into the air
Finding she could really fly
She laughed and danced
And wept and cried
And soared.

~

The sky had turned from
Black to white
Her journey: from the earth to light-
But she became them both

Looking Back

I hope you know
I know
It wasn’t all
Your fault

For months you were
The one I blamed
I’m sorry for
The time
I wasted
Being sad, being hurt

Only now do I truly
See all my mistakes
How often I was in the wrong…

You were never perfect either
But now I see
How I was the reason
You did things
I held resentment for

I acted out of childishness
And you couldn’t help being
Confused, and really hurt.

The girl of your dreams
Didn’t know what she
Was doing.

When I didn’t want to
Face my faults
I put them all on you
I made myself a
Victim
Who only felt
Abused

I’m sorry because
Even though you had little
Self-control
I fell into the pattern I grew up with
I made things worse for
Both of us
You were used as the excuse

I’m not saying it’s all my fault
It’s just I finally see
Where I went wrong

It’s ironic that now I know
I never had to feel
Like I wasn’t in control
If I had been who I am now
It never would have gone so far…
I don’t think I would have wanted you

But maybe…
I needed this
To learn…
To grow

It may not make a difference now,
It certainly won’t change the past
But I just wanted you to know
I’m sorry I was
That girl back then
Because today,
You’d hardly recognize me

Morning Walk

The sun filters in
To the corners of my heart
I am washed new
In its loving light

Every breath that I take in
Brings to me new life
It fills my soul bubbling or’
With wondrous delight

Vibrant as the breeze
I want to drink it in
To dance on every dew drop
And sing the earth’s sweet strain

Dickinson once wrote the poem,
“Inebriate of air I breathe…”
Only now do I know
Exactly what she means!
